Katsina State Government Allocates N2.3 Billion for Ramadan Food Support Program

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda

In a significant move to support its citizens during the upcoming Ramadan, the Katsina State Government has approved N2.3 billion for the procurement of grains and essential commodities. This initiative was announced by Professor Ahmed Mohamed Bakori, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development, following a State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

The program aims to ease the observance of Ramadan fasting for less privileged citizens through a special feeding program that will run throughout the holy month. A portion of the commodities will be distributed free of charge to the elderly and most vulnerable individuals, while a substantial amount will be sold to the public at subsidized prices.

Professor Bakori highlighted that this year's Ramadan support initiative builds on a similar successful program implemented last year.

In addition to the Ramadan support, the State Executive Council has also approved N16.5 billion for the procurement of 32,000 tonnes of NPK and Urea fertilizers. This new procurement will add to the existing stock of 80,000 bags, bringing the total to 400,000 bags. The state government plans to commence fertilizer distribution in April, ahead of the rainy season.

These efforts underscore the Katsina State Government's commitment to implementing policies and programs that alleviate the hardships faced by its citizens.
