The Katsina State Government has launched a N3 billion Community Development Program (CDP) to empower communities across all 361 electoral wards in the state.
A press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, Ibrahim Kaulaha, says the governor announced the initiative during a sensitization program for Local Government Chairmen in Kano. The program will allocate N10 million to each ward for community-driven infrastructure projects.
"This program underscores our commitment to grassroots development and transparent governance," Governor Radda stated. "We believe in empowering communities to identify and prioritize their own development needs."
The program will utilize existing television viewing centers as coordinating offices. Community committees will submit project proposals, which will be reviewed and approved before funding is released. To enhance agricultural sustainability, the state government will also procure six tube well drilling machines and dredging equipment to support year-round farming activities.
"We will provide comprehensive support to ensure the success of this program," Governor Radda added. "This includes financial assistance, technical expertise, and capacity-building opportunities for community members."
The state government will also create a bilingual website to document the history of the CDP, making information accessible to the public in both English and Hausa.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bashir Tanimu Gambo, urged council chairmen to actively participate in the program's implementation.
