KALLABI

One of my nieces, Rakayya Ayyuba Adamu, a graduate of Bayero University, Kano, BUK, has ventured into the world of entrepreneurship. She has entered into the world of publishing and Journalism, by starting a quarterly Magazine called, "Kallabi".

It's a specialized magazine not only because it is in Hausa language but also because it aims to feature women who have made their marks in a world dominated by women. That is why the choice of the title cannot be more apt.

The title, "Kallabi", which in Hausa means head tie,  is a metaphorical expression culled from the Hausa proverb, "Kallabi Tsakanin Rawuna", which describes a woman who has succeeded in her chosen field in a world dominated by men.

The magazine will also point the way forward to youths, especially the girl child and motivate them to succeed in spite of all odds. And it will entertain readers with beautiful pictures of wedding ceremonies etc.

Not only is the magazine a welcome development in the field of Journalism, it will also enrich the Hausa language and literature as well as teach the Hausa youths how to write properly in the language that is currently being threatened by the social media writing culture of the young who tend to distort written Hausa. It will, no doubt, go along way in addressing the dearth of media organizations in the northern part of the country. In the economic angle, the magazine is also part of the answer to poverty alleviation by creating employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed.

So, kudos to my niece!
